Science and technology way forward for PNG

Science and technology have huge potential to contribute towards meeting some of the major challenges that PNG faces today, including food security, according to Hon David Arore, the new Minister for High Education, Research, Science and Technology (HERST) in the O’Neill-Dion Government.

Livestock project on target

The 5th review of a livestock project under the Public Investment Programme (PIP) and a training workshop conducted for livestock researchers at NARI were hailed a success. Both sessions were held at NARI’s Highlands Regional Centre at Tambul, Western Highlands Province, from September 3-5 2012, in which all livestock researchers from the Institute’s regional research centres in PNG attended.

Community Development Minister recognises women and youth

Minister for Religion, Youth and Community Development Loujaya Toni has called on women and youth at NARI community in Lae, Morobe province, to organize themselves and work with her office for greater recognition and empowerment.

NARI extends MOA with women in agriculture

NARI will continue to support the PNG Women in Agriculture Development Foundation (PNGWiADF) with administrative and support services for another five years. This was made possible with the renewal of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) recently at the NARI Headquarters, which also hosts the PNGWiADF’s headquarters and administrative functions since its establishment since 2007. The agreement was signed between NARI Director General Dr Raghunath Ghodake and PNGWiADF President Maria Linibi.

Sir Paulias: Develop renewable resources for sustainable development

Papua New Guinea’s natural renewable resources stand to realise the country’s long term visions and bringing prosperity to the people if these resources are strategically developed, says senior statesman Grand Chief Sir Paulias Matane. Sir Paulias said agriculture, forestry and fisheries make up the basis of local resources with huge potential which PNG is yet to fully exploit.
